Your guide to crystal-clear marine life footage
Getting great underwater footage starts with the right settings. While we provide professional cameras during expeditions, here's how to optimize your personal GoPro for those magical ocean moments.
Start with 5.3K at 60fps for maximum quality, or 4K at 60fps for easier editing. Turn ProTune ON for more control. Set White Balance to Native, keep ISO between 100-400, and use Low Sharpness for more natural footage. Choose Natural Color profile, turn Raw Audio OFF, and enable Stabilization with Horizon Lock for smooth movement.
Use 5.3K at 60fps for best quality. Keep White Balance on Auto for underwater conditions, limit ISO to 400 for cleaner footage. Set Sharpness to Medium, Color to Natural, and enable HyperSmooth for stability. Always use High Bit Rate for maximum detail.
Set resolution to 4K at 60fps for reliable performance. Auto White Balance works well underwater, keep ISO limited to 400. Medium Sharpness and Natural Color give the most versatile footage. Enable HyperSmooth and use High Bit Rate for best results.
Always use a red filter when diving below 5 meters - it brings back those lost red colors. Keep your movements minimal while filming and try to stay within 2 meters of your subject for the clearest footage. Filming slightly upward helps with lighting, and the wide lens setting works best underwater. Remember, getting physically closer to your subject always produces better results than using zoom.
While these settings provide an excellent starting point, you might need small adjustments based on conditions. During our expeditions, we'll help you fine-tune these settings for the specific marine life we encounter.
